The Ford Mustang is the ultimate muscle car. Over the years, the Mustang has seen many updates and changes, but it still remains true to its original roots. For 2018, this pony car received some big updates for the first time in over 10 years. Some of the changes include a new grille, the addition of a 10-speed automatic transmission, and updates to the suspension. Inside, a new instrument cluster allows you to customize the information you see, and the 5-liter V-8 has some additional horsepower. Here are some more details for the 2018 Ford Mustang.

Trim Levels

Ford offers the Mustang as both a coupe and a convertible, and the five different main trim levels start with the EcoBoost. This has 17-inch wheels, a limited-slip rear differential, and launch control for the manual transmission. The EcoBoost Premium adds 18-inch wheels and some extra technology on the inside. If you bump up to the GT or the GT Premium models, you'll get more power, quad exhaust tips, and the new 10-speed transmission. Ford also offers the Performance package, which adds 19-inch wheels and summer tires, and buyers can also choose among four different rear spoiler designs for any model.

Engine

Ford designed the Mustang for speed and power. The EcoBoost models get a 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 310 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. This comes with a six-speed manual transmission, or you can opt for the new 10-speed automatic. The GT models step things up with an improved version of the 5.0-liter V-8 engine that generates 460 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. Ford also added direct and port injection for the new year, along with several other changes to boost performance.

Performance

The 2018 Mustang delivers both power and performance. The improved 5-liter V-8 engine will go from zero to 60 in under four seconds, and the smaller four-cylinder will get you there in under five seconds. An improved suspension adds to the comfortable ride, and makes the Mustang a breeze to handle no matter what types of roads you drive it on.

Interior

There is room in the Mustang for up to four passengers, whether you have the coupe or the convertible. The front seats are very comfortable, and the coupe has a large trunk with over 13 cubic feet of cargo space. The new digital dash display will reconfigure depending on the drive mode you choose, and it is also customizable. The Premium, GT, and Shelby Mustangs come with the latest version of Ford's Sync 3 infotainment system, which is easier to use than the previous version. It comes with an 8-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.

Safety Features

The Mustang comes standard with a rearview camera, traction and stability control, and knee air bags for the front seat passengers. Available safety features include a precollision assist system with automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and pedestrian detection. There is also a distance alert system that is new for 2018.
