The Ford Escape distinguishes itself from other compact SUVs with its excellent handling, utility, and special features. It offers a fun driving experience without compromising practicality. Here's a look at the latest Ford Escape.

Trim Levels

The 2018 Escape comes in four trim levels: the base S, SE, SEL, and Titanium. On the outside, this SUV is a cross between a rugged SUV and a sporty liftback. It features a handsome, crisp front end with a two-bar hexagonal grille and angular headlights. Its sloping roofline and roof rails give it a sporty, rugged side profile. While it won't stand out on the road, the Escape is aesthetically-pleasing enough to blend well into any situation.

The 2018 Ford Escape comes with three engine options. The base engine is a 2.5-liter inline-four that produces 168 hp. Mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, it comes with a shift switch and sport mode. Next up is a 1.5-liter turbo-four engine that generates 179 hp and delivers slightly better acceleration than the inline-four.

The most powerful engine comes in the form of an energetic 2.0-liter turbo-four that makes 245 hp. Available on most trims and standard on the Titanium, it can propel the SUV from zero to 60 mph in seven seconds. Most trims are fitted with FWD, but you can also opt for AWD if you get any of the top three trims.

The 2018 Escape handles better than most of its competitors. Its sedan-like body control and quick steering enable it to negotiate corners and twisty roads with great composure. It also rides smoothly over bumps and road imperfections. With the turbocharged engines, the SUV has more than enough power for passing and merging with highway traffic. As for fuel efficiency, the Escape achieves a rating of 21/29 mpg (city/highway) with the standard engine. The least thirsty engine in the lineup is the 1.5-liter turbo-four, which achieves 23/30 mpg.

The Escape has a seating capacity of five. Its front seats are wide and supportive enough to keep you comfortable on long trips, while its rear seats provide ample legroom and headroom. With a lot of high-quality materials throughout the cabin, it feels more refined than most of its rivals. Also, the SUV offers 34 cubic feet of storage space behind the rear seats and almost 70 cubic feet with those seats folded.

All trims come standard with a six-speaker audio system and a voice-activated SYNC infotainment system. If you want a more pleasant ride, you can get optional features such as dual-zone automatic climate control, panoramic sunroof, navigation, 10-speaker audio system, satellite radio, and the SYNC 3 infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Safety Features

The 2018 Ford Escape received an overall safety rating of five stars from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The SUV has airbags and a rearview camera as standard equipment. In addition, it can be fitted with optional safety features such as automatic high beams, automatic parking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assistance, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic warning, parking sensors, and driver-drowsiness monitoring.
